Smart Tax Tips. Grant Thornton and Karen Yull (Toronto: Key Porter, 2005).

This is simply the best book we have found that deals with all kinds of tax areas. It provides tips on income taxes and has an excellent section dedicated to medical expenses. It is frequently updated to reflect the latest government budget changes as they affect the tax rules. You can order this from your Grant Thornton representative office or get it at your local bookstore. In the section of the website called “Media Releases,” this association provides excellent information on making claims for people with diabetes.

This agency used to be called Revenue Canada. It is the definitive source of information with regard to what you can and cannot declare, although the website has been a little out of date on recent changes in the federal budget. Still, it is a very important source for information on taxes. Your accountant will be sent all the recent updates. (Click on “About Your Tax Return.” Then click on “Completing.” Click on “What You Can Deduct.” In the next window, select “M” for medical expenses. Scroll down and you will see a list of all the areas regarding medical expenses. Choose the area you would like to know more about. )
