Lynda's Ongoing Patient Story

I read with fervor the article on CBC.CA - Patients' Rights question and answer. I must commend you on your courage. There are a lot of ethical people in the medical profession who wouldn't dare speak out like you've done.

One of the questions that was asked during the interview was: 'How did this experience lead to the formation of the Patients' Association of Canada'? My story relates very closely to yours and I would like to read your comments on my story.

Everyday, I'm thankful that I can still read. I have difficulties with so many things we all take for granted since my doctor performed his 'Neuro-Amygdala-Hippocampectomy' in 1991. The doctor outright lied about my medical condition and it took an MRI that I paid for in 2003 to show me exactly what he had done. In 2009, I requested a copy of my neurosurgical reports from the Montreal Neurological Institute and found out that he justified the surgery by saying that I had 'intractable seizures.' That was a complete lie and furthermore I don't even know what they are.

Another report that I have indicates that the epileptic focus was never removed from the brain. I paid someone to interpret the article and they told me that I would have 'dementia' thanks to the doctor's work. A Psychiatrist in Ottawa investigated my problem and told me that the doctor apparently had the right to remove what he did. I thought the surgery was to remove an epileptic focus, not everything else.

Today, I suffer from:

1. Dysarthria. (Slurred speech)
2. Dibilitating Mood Disorders;
3. Lupus Anticoagulant;
4. I'm uninhibited;
5. Cognitive impairment; (includes problems with reading, spelling and math)
6. Suicidal Impulses;
7. Hypoxia;
8. Impulsivity;
9. Social isolation;
10. Center of Ridicule;
11. Executive dysfunction;
12. Talking incessantly to myself on the same topic - the doctor's lying

I consider myself 'Retarded with Awareness.' One Neurologist admitted that they had lied about my condition; the doctor himself admitted to it in a telephone conversation in 2006. Another Neurologist claimed that they did it because I was considered a 'failure' by the Montreal Neurological Institute.

Because of the litany of excuses given by my doctor and the Montreal Neurological Institute we can never come to an agreement that the doctor committed a crime. He is in a well-padded position and is protected despite what he has done to me and others. Another point that I want to make is that decisions are made on our behalf while we are under anesthetic and not advised afterwords what the surgeons have done. (Does the story sound familiar)

In order to maintain a stable mood, I'm taking a product called Empowerplus made by the Truehope Corporation out of Alberta. The product works and has done wonders keeping me alive and cognizant. It's also very expensive. I also take another supplement called Adrenal made by AOR out of Alberta. This product has helped me tremendously with the suicidal impulses and cognitive impairment. Unfortunately, these products can only do so much and I still have to live with the residual effects of the doctor's work.

If I wasn't intelligent, how would I be able to raise two teenage children, write this document in a coherent manner and organize a book with all the documentation I've collected over the years to support my case. Someone is lying here and it isn't me. I'm fighting for my life on a daily basis and the system continues to railroad me.

There isn't any support for people like us; even with the evidence.
