Patients Choose Awards for Windsor MDs

The Patients' Association of Canada is just six months old and already it's recognizing two doctors who provide exceptional care here in Windsor with Patients' Choice awards.

"We think these events are really significant because patients nominate and choose doctors who are especially patient friendly," said Dr. Sholom Glouberman, who presented the awards Monday night.

The patients' association received letters from more than 20 patients across Windsor-Essex After sorting through all the nominations, a jury selected two standouts. Local eye doctor Barry Emara was one of them. "I just feel very honoured and very overwhelmed actually," Emara said. "For a patient to go out of their way to nominate me, it's an amazing feeling. I'm thrilled," he said.

The award for a family practitioner went to Dr. Kouslai Naidoo, who was too shy to speak at the award ceremony. But the woman who nominated her did. "She has just been there for myself, my aging mother, my-mother-in-law, my grandchildren," said Jan Hall. Hall said she has had a lot of physicians. But, she said, no one has cared more for her or her family than Dr. Naidoo.

"You know, she is just an angel of medicine. That's how I sum her up," Hall said. Patient Choice awards will be handed out in at least three other cities across Ontario this year.
