Inaugural Conference and Public Launch

Date:
Tuesday, February 15, 2011 9:00 am to 7:00 pm

Would you like to join other health care professionals, managers, policy makers and patients at an inaugural event that will model new ways to conduct a public dialogue about health care? If so, you are invited to apply for a place at the Patients’ Association of Canada launch conference on improving the patient experience in health care on 15 February 2011.

We expect this conference to seed ideas for a Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) research project on finding more effective ways to improve the quality of care and of patient safety through patient engaged governance.

Location:

The conference will be from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM in the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon on the second floor of the Toronto Reference Library, at 789 Yonge Street Toronto M4W 2G8. Lunch will be provided.

Selection:

To the conference, we will accept a broad cross-section of those who are intimately connected to the health care system. If you are selected, expect a powerful exchange of views, new connections, surprising and enjoyable conversations, new directions to explore and even some fun.

The Conference:

The Patients’ Association of Canada believes our health care system can improve with an articulate and engaged patient voice at the table. We are not a complaints organization; nor are we interested in pitting patients against professionals. The carefully designed and expertly facilitated conference will allow participants to organize themselves and bring their perspectives to elicit constructive, collaborative ideas. We are seeking participants who can listen as well as speak, contribute thoughtfully and seek innovative possibilities beyond the usual answers.

We do not expect definitive solutions or a joint resolution at the end of the day. Instead we will use new ways to involve everyone and explore the issues; to speak from their own perspective and listen to that of others so that everyone is heard.

Launch Party:

Please join us for a party which will follow the conference at 5:00 PM to celebrate the launch of the Patients' Association of Canada (PAC) and of My Operation, PAC founder Sholom Glouberman's new book about the genesis of PAC.
