In partnership with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, PAC put together a panel for the CIHR Primary Healthcare Summit, 'Patient-Oriented Primary Healthcare -- Scaling Up Innovation', in Toronto, on January 19, 2010.
The panel: 'An Organized Patient Voice for Primary Healthcare,' presented and discussed the need for an organized patient voice, so that patients can speak for themselves on primary healthcare issues, and begin to create a more collaborative form of care with their caregivers. Such a development is clearly implied by the interest in patient-centred care among health professionals in primary healthcare. The panel focussed on the patient experience as a crucial element of both care-giving and care-receiving, and the kinds of issues it raises for re-thinking primary medical care.
The panel featured:
Neil Stuart, Secretary, PAC (Moderator)
Martin Dawes, Chair, Dept. of Family Medicine, McGill University
Abraham Fuks, Former Dean of Medicine, McGill University
Sholom Glouberman, President, PAC
Elke Grenzer, Vice President, PAC
Andre Picard, Health Policy Columnist, the Globe and Mail
