SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands, WHO's Global Annual Campaign

"The goal of Clean Care is Safer Care is to ensure that infection control is acknowledged universally as a solid and essential basis towards patient safety and supports the reduction of health care-associated infections and their consequences."

"Each year, hundreds of millions of patients around the world are affected by health care-associated infections (HCAI). Although HCAI is the most frequent adverse event in health-care, its true global burden remains unknown because of the difficulty in gathering reliable data. Understanding and assessing the global burden of HCAI is one of the key areas of work of the First Global Patient Safety Challenge. In 2009, the WHO First Global Patient Safety Challenge team conducted systematic reviews of existing studies to identify the magnitude of the HCAI problem."
